Residents and businesses throughout the province can recycle scrap metal through drop-off sites, collection programs or metal recyclers.
There are two types of scrap metals:
- Ferrous metals such as steel and cast iron
- Non-ferrous metals such as aluminum, stainless steel, lead, copper, brass and zinc
City of Mount Pearl
The City of Mount Pearl provides collection and disposal services for household garbage as well as collection and recycling services for mixed containers and paper and cardboard. They also offer seasonal bulk waste collection services (May to October) for the disposal/recycling of bulk items including scrap metal, furniture, and yard waste.

Eastern Regional Service Board
Eastern Regional Service Board provides collection and disposal services for garbage, bulk waste and yard waste as well as collection and recycling services for mixed containers, paper and cardboard and scrap metal.

Eastern Regional Service Board operates Waste Recovery Facilities in the eastern waste management region, providing residents with access to public drop-off sites for materials that cannot be disposed of through curbside collection programs. Items accepted at public drop-off sites include construction and demolition waste, scrap metal, electronics, MMSB program tires (highway, passenger, light truck and motorcycle tires), ATV tires, furniture, propane tanks and oil tanks (drained and cleaned).

Residential Drop-Off – Robin Hood Bay Regional Waste Management Facility
The Robin Hood Bay Regional Waste Management Facility provides residents in the eastern waste management region with free disposal services at the Residential Drop-Off site. Items accepted include: bulk waste, beverage containers (excludes glass), mixed containers, paper, cardboard, electronics, garbage, household hazardous waste (HHW), paint, oil, yard waste scrap metal and MMSB program tires (highway, passenger, light truck and motorcycle tires).

Town of Torbay – Scrap Metal Drop-Off
The Town of Torbay provides a recycling container (from April to October) for collecting scrap metal from local residents. Larger items can be placed near the container, for loading by town crews at a later time.
