Plastic Bags

Click on the tabs below for reuse, recycling or safe disposal options.

Plastic bags may be placed in your regular garbage. The Provincial Government of Newfoundland and Labrador enacted a provincial ban on the distribution of retail plastic bags on October 1, 2020. You can avoid the use of other types of plastic bags by using reusable options whenever possible.

Plastic bags that end up as litter can be harmful to the environment. They can lodge in trees and fences, clog ditches and storm drains or end up in ocean and river waters, where they pose a threat to the environment and to wildlife.
