Lead acid batteries are considered hazardous waste and should be disposed of properly.

Car batteries are the most common type of lead acid battery. The lead, sulphuric acid and plastic casings from car batteries can be reprocessed by registered battery recyclers. Lead acid batteries are also found in campers and boats to power accessories such as lights and winches.
