Hazardous waste includes products that are poisonous, corrosive, flammable or explosive. Hazardous materials are found in many household products including compact fluorescent light bulbs, batteries, household cleaners and toiletries.

Many hazardous items can be avoided entirely or replaced with less harmful substitutes.  If you can’t avoid using some hazardous products, safe disposal is very important – these materials should never be put in the garbage or poured down the drain. Learn more about Hazardous Waste.

Think About It

Newfoundlanders and Labradorians produce 2 litres of household hazardous waste per year.

Just one drop of hazardous liquid can contaminate an entire drinking water source.

Avoid hazardous products by choosing natural alternatives.
