Electronic waste may contain hazardous materials that are potentially harmful to the environment if not disposed of in a safe manner. Electronic waste also contains valuable metals and components that can be safely recycled into new products.

In Newfoundland & Labrador, electronic waste management is handled through multiple industry-led producer responsibility (http://recyclemyelectronics.ca/nl/) organizations. Residents and businesses can properly dispose of electronic products in a convenient and environmentally friendly manner at collection sites throughout the province.

Since the EPR program was launched in 2013, over six million kilograms of electronics have been diverted, as well as over 79,500 cell phones and over 362,000 set-top boxes.

Accepted items include electronic waste products such as:

  • display devices such as tvs and monitors
  • phones (telephones, cellular & smart phone devices, pagers)
  • home audio/video systems
